Basquiat Unveiled: The Lenses Behind the Legend

VERY excited to hear about this upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat documentary, King Pleasure (like the current exhibit), to be directed by the brilliant Quinn Wilson.

This new documentary aims to provide a different perspective of Jean-Michel, a clearer picture of this iconic man.

These untold stories and never-before-seen archival footage provided by Jean-Michel’s sisters, Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, and his stepmother will shatter our picture of the iconic artist.

Quinn Wilson is such a visionary herself. I love this interview about her journey thus far with Music Video Night, produced by Vanity Fair. (Fair warning, the audio is a little spotty.)

Among the other team members on the production, I’m enthusiastically anticipating the influence of Anthony Konigbagbe, whose art direction and design are satisfyingly moody, contrasty, warm, and nostalgic.

Aurora James, who I believe is also somehow involved in the project (even though the Instagram announcement was taken down), is also a name to scream about. She’s a driven creative, focusing on designing gorgeous shoes for her line Brother Vellies and bringing about representation for makers of color on shelves through her initiative, The Fifteen Percent Pledge.

Overall, I’m very excited to witness the magic that comes from the team announced thus far.
